Cindia sent us a message through her iPhone:

“Okay, well my Quince is in less than 6 months, and I haven’t planned anything yet. I only have 3 padrinos and I’m just having a very hard time planning it. I’m even having second thoughts but I was just wondering if you have any advice for me! Please get back to me as soon as possible.
Sincerely,
A very stressed Quinceanera”

Post Quinceanera Planning-Enjoy your Quince

Enjoy your Quinceanera! This is a fun time for friends and family.

The first thing we want to say is – DON’T BE STRESSED! Your quinceanera is a once-in-a-lifetime event that should be fun! And, that fun will come from you being calm, smart and organized.

Where do you start?

The first two steps are the most important. These will drive how to do the rest of your planning:

Step 1: draw up a list of everything you would LIKE.
For example …

Will you have a religious ceremony in a church? Or, perhaps, a small religious ceremony at your reception? Or, no religious ceremony at all, just a party?

Do you want to have a reception/party in a banquet hall and have it catered? Or, at a less expensive venue like a VFW hall, or a church hall, where you bring in your food? Or maybe, at your home or a park?

Will you have a band? A DJ? Or have a friend, with a great music collection deejay for you?

These are some of the major questions to begin asking yourself, because they will determine a good part of your cost. Once you have all of your likes listed, you are ready for step #2, the Budgeting.

Step 2: With your parents, determine how much you can spend.
Then, start researching on the Internet and making phone calls to find out the cost of everything you want. Write down the costs of each item in your “I would LIKE” list. This is the start of your budgeting. The individual costs will help you know if you can afford what you want. For example, if the cost of a catered reception is beyond your budget, start looking for a place where you can bring in all of the food that your tías and madrinas will make.

Budgeting is the most important step. It will help make sure that your planning is going in the right direction, and it will help you and your parents succeed in realizing your dream.

Post Quinceanera Planning-What do you do?

What exactly do you do for your Quince?

There is no one way that it has to be done. Customs vary among the different Hispanic cultures, among different regions, and even among different families. This is your event. You and your family decide what you want to do. You can start by reading and learning about the different customs. A good place to start is on our website pages: About the Quinceanera Tradition.

And, keep in mind, that if 6 months is not enough time for you to plan what you want, you could still have the Quinceanera party as a Sweet 16. A lot of families are doing this because it gives them an extra year to plan and pay for the celebration.

Good luck and happy planning!
